Names, characters, places, situations and incidents either are products of the author's imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons (living or dead), is entirely coincidental. People's names in the story may or may not be similar to actual names; however the process of name selection for the characters was derived from an electronic process more akin to chance instead of selecting an actual person's name. Depictions of actual products in the story should not be considered either an endorsement or criticism, but exist in the story only because they occur in the culture and the reader better understands situations in the story because of the context. Locations are fictional in nature. If actual locations are cited, it is solely to be used as a refrerence point of the story and should not be considered as scenes where things occuring in the story actually takes place in real life. They are complex individauls with dynamic circumstances and unique perspectives to their lives. You will want to get to know them, their habits, wants, needs and desires. They have their own talents, problems, hang-ups, and quiks like everyone. But they all contribute to the story in their own way. Prologue They joke that it is not the fall that kills you, it is the stop that does. Well, I am still living, but I can tell you that it could have been either the fall or the stop at the bottom that should have limited my time on this Earth. It all started with a new job out of town. A middle management position in a food production facility. After a month of preparing for the new job, I had my car packed and I was on the road. They say a trip of a thousand miles begins with a single step. I am glad that I am driving! Old job done, on the way to a new life. The drive was a long one. Only about twenty-five percent of the trek would be on interstate highway. The remainder would be cross country on two lane roads through many one stop light towns. At best average speeds of sixty-miles-per-hour, it would take sixteen hours for the trip. But when you factor in the stop and go driving in those towns plus meals and potty brakes, a more realistic timeframe would twenty hours. And so at five-o-clock in the morning the trip started. Generally, the drive was a pleasant one. The only real hinderance was having to change the radio stations on the car radio every time you drove in and out of coverage areas. It's times like those you wish you had a passenger to share a conversation with. But a couple meals in roadside diners and the passenger seat filled with bags of chips, candy bars and soda drinks kept me going toward my destination. The longest stretch between towns is a winding road through a rocky pass. As I drove down the road the vistas were postcard picturesque. The road curved and meandered through cliff like areas. There was a section where the curving road inclines upward hugging the side of the cliff. I could see out the passenger side window that there was a steep drop-off. As I approached the top of the hill, suddenly there was a semi-truck on the wrong side of the road heading directly for me. I swerved to avoid the collision, but there wasn't enough room. The semi slammed into my car with enough force to send my car air born over the guard rail. The last thing I remember is tumbling down the cliff face and seeing blue sky. # # # # # https://www.asstr.org/files/Authors/NorthernGent/Stories/Salacious%20Succul ance/SS___Chapter%2001.txt
